For us, choosing travel medical insurance came down to choosing between World Nomads or SafetyWing.
Here is our Guide to Travel Health Insurance for Americans (and Other Nationalities Too!)
Here is our analysis of World Nomads travel medical insurance.
Here is our analysis of SafetyWing travel medical insurance.
Our First Choice Is SafetyWing
After comparing costs and coverage of World Nomads Travel Medical Insurance or SafetyWing Travel Medical Insurance our first choice was SafetyWing.
We liked SafetyWing better even though we are too old to qualify for their super low rate for people under 39.
Which made it slightly more expensive than World Nomads Travel Medical Insurance for us.
Mostly we just love SafetyWing’s vision of building toward a complete suite of protections and benefits for entrepreneurs – fully functioning across the globe.
And now they even offer corporate nomad policies for companies that have gone 100% remote.
That’s a vision we wanted to be a part of and support!
So we went to sign up for SafetyWing travel medical insurance.
Just one little hitch. We are residents of Florida.
And currently SafetyWing cannot offer insurance for addresses in Florida. Something about satisfying Florida state insurance regulators about their innovative insurance product. Classic case of bureaucracy standing in the way of innovation.
We contemplated signing up for SafetyWing travel medical insurance under one of our parents’ addresses. Or just using the address of whatever homestay we happened to be in around the world at the moment.
But then we thought about how that would look if we ever did have to file a large claim. And decided that using an address other than our permanent address in Florida might be cause for them to deny a claim.
If and when SafetyWing is able to offer insurance for addresses in Florida we will likely switch to SafetyWing travel medical insurance.

This is true. But also note that they do accommodate full time nomads (as their name suggests!):
What if I’m a digital nomad and change countries frequently?
You should use your country of residence. If you have resided outside of the United States for a period exceeding 180 consecutive days, your classification as a U.S. resident may be subject to change. Read your chosen policy carefully, and please reach out if you have any questions about what’s covered and what’s not. We’re happy to help.
